Speed matters: we measured our live sites, and here are the scores

Every web agency says its sites are fast. Instead of saying it, we measured. On 21 October 2026 we ran Google Lighthouse, the same tool behind Google's PageSpeed Insights, on the home pages of six live sites we built and run: four customer sites and our own two.
How did we measure?
We used Lighthouse 12.8.2 with its standard settings: a simulated mid-range phone on a slow mobile connection, and a desktop. Each site was tested three times on each, and we report the middle result, because single runs vary. These are lab scores, not what every real visitor experiences, but they are repeatable and anyone can check them.
The scores
Performance and accessibility scores out of 100, as mobile / desktop / accessibility:
- Med spa: 100 / 100 / 100
- Pediatric clinic: 90 / 95 / 100
- Vacation-rental manager: 80 / 95 / 100
- Primary-care practice: 60 / 96 / 100
- mashdata.net (this site): 64 / 92 / 100
- ownsites.io: 62 / 52 / 92
The primary-care practice's mobile score moved the most between runs, from 53 to 92, so its middle result of 60 is the least certain number in the list.
What went well?
- Desktop is fast. Five of the six sites scored 92 or higher on desktop, with the main content on screen in under two seconds.
- Accessibility. Five sites scored a perfect 100, and every site scored 100 for best practices.
- Pages don't jump. Layout shift, the annoying movement of content while a page loads, was close to zero on every site.
Where do we fall short?
Mobile is our weak spot, and our own sites are among the slowest. On the simulated phone, this site took almost six seconds to show its main content, and ownsites.io about the same. Three of the four customer sites did better than either of ours.
ownsites.io also has a desktop problem: its animated home page keeps the browser busy, so the page takes a long time to settle even though it appears quickly. Its accessibility score of 92 comes from one line of low-contrast text and a drop-down without a label.
What do the reports point to?
- Show the main text sooner. On the slower sites the main text waits for animation scripts to download and run before it appears. Lighter animation on the first screen helps most.
- Compress ownsites.io's JavaScript. It is sent uncompressed today, and Lighthouse estimates compression would save several hundred kilobytes per visit.
- Longer caching. Some files are not cached for long, so returning visitors download them again.
- Fix the small accessibility gaps on ownsites.io: contrast and the missing label.
How can you check your own site?
Open PageSpeed Insights, enter your address and look at the mobile tab first, because that is where most visitors are and where most sites struggle. Run it a few times, since one run can mislead. If the numbers surprise you, share your site with us and we will tell you what we would change first.
