AI agents are at work now. Checking them is the new job

For the last two years most AI agents lived in pilots and demos. That has changed. AI agents now answer customers, sort leads, fill in forms and move work between tools, inside real businesses, every day.

A report G2 published this week puts numbers on it. In its 2026 AI Agents Report, a survey of 1,019 business software buyers, 66% of the companies that bought AI agents now run them in limited or full production, up 18% on last year.

The part nobody put in the demo

The same report has a second finding that matters just as much. Someone has to check what the agents do. In G2's survey, 31% say their people spend at least six hours a week overseeing agent work, and 45% say checking and redoing that work eats more than a quarter of the gains they expected.

That matches what we see. An agent that is right 95% of the time still needs someone to catch the other 5%, and the cost of that checking depends almost entirely on how the app was built.

Build the checking in from day one

When we put AI into an app, we design the review step with the same care as the AI step. A few rules we follow:

  • Show the work before it goes out. In our apps, AI drafts and a person approves. OwnSites drafts a whole website and the owner reviews every page. ProfVault fills in job applications and the applicant checks every field before submitting.
  • Make checking fast. Put the AI result next to what it was based on, highlight what changed, and make approve, edit and reject one click each. A two-second check gets done. A two-minute check gets skipped.
  • Log every run. In OwnSites, every AI call is recorded with what went in, what came out, how long it took and what it cost. When something goes wrong, we can see why.
  • Start narrow. Give an agent one clear job before giving it five. G2 found that only 7% of buyers are comfortable with fully autonomous agents. Most want guardrails, and so do we.

What this means for your business

If you are adding AI agents to your work, budget for the checking as well as the agent. Ask any vendor, or us, three questions: who reviews the agent's work, how long does a review take, and what happens when the agent is wrong?

Good answers to those questions are what turn an AI demo into an AI tool you can trust every day.
